Monday, August 24, 2009 (five days before students return) - Teachers and other 10-month City Schools employees return

Monday, August 31, 2009 - Schools open for students

Monday, September 7, 2009 - Labor Day - Schools Closed

October 5-13, 2009 - HSA Testing

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 - 1st Quarter Ends

November 26 and 27, 2009 - Thanksgiving Holiday - Schools Closed

December 24, 2009 - January 1, 2010 - Winter Holiday  - Schools Closed

January 11-22, 2010 - HSA Testing

Monday, January 18, 2010 - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Observed - Schools Closed

January 22, 2010 - 2nd Quarter Ends

February 15, 2010 - President's Day - Schools Closed

March 8-23, 2010 - MSA Reading and Mathemeatics Testing

March 29 - April 5, 2010 - Spring Break - Schools Closed

April 7, 2010 - 3rd Quarter Ends

April 12 - 16, 2010 -  Standford Achievement Tests and HSA Tests

April 21 - May 11, 2010 - MSA Sience

May 17 - June 4, 2010 - HSA Testing

May 31, 2010 - Memorial Day - Schools Closed

June 10, 2010 - 4th Quarter Ends; Last Day of School

In the event of weather-related emergency closings, as many as five days will be added to the calendar: Friday, June 11, 2010, Monday, June 14 - 17, 2010.

Professional Development Days - 10 whole days (contractual) - August 24 - 28, 2009; September 25, 2009; October 15-16, 2009; January 28-29, 2010.

Early Release Days: Four (4) early-release days for ALL Students PK-12 for Parent/Teacher Conference. Progress reports issued on these dates. Instructional day is 3 hours and 30 minutes.  Friday, October 9, 2009; Friday, December 18, 2009; Friday, March 5, 2010; Friday, May 7, 2010.

High School Exams: An additional six (6) scheduled early-release days for High School students (ONLY) requested by high school principals and staff. Scheduled during HS midterm examinations and final examination days. Instructional day is 3 hours and 30 minutes. January 19-21, 2010 and June 7 -9, 2010.
