April 7th -13th is National Public Health Week and AFT Healthcare-Maryland President Debra Perry is sending a “Thank You” note to all public health employees in Bargaining Unit E, acknowledging the great work they do for the citizens of Maryland. The Maryland Classified Employees Council (MCEA), an AFT-Maryland affiliate, will hold its Statewide Advisory Council meeting April 26, 2014.  The Advisory Council meeting hosts representatives of all MCEA chapters and regions for an evaluation and assessment of the Association’s activities and a strategic planning session for future operations.

The meeting will start  at 9:00 a.m. at American Legion Post 137, 1508 DeSoto Road, the first MCEA Advisory Council meeting to be held in Baltimore City. State Senator Catherine Pugh and members of the Baltimore City Council are scheduled to attend.

Ernie Grecco, President of the Metropolitan Baltimore Council, AFL-CIO Unions has called for a boycott of Staples office supply stores. In calling the boycott, Grecco and the Council join the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the American Postal Workers Union (APWU) in an attempt to stop the privatization of post office services. The Postal Service has entered a contract that allows Staples stores to operate “postal counters” that offer stamps and other mailing services— activities normally performed by post offices.
