AFT COVID-19 Grief Counseling

In response to the world-wide pandemic we are facing, the AFT is providing Grief Counseling at no cost to you. All members, active and retired, and eligible immediate family members will have the opportunity to speak with a licensed, Master’s level counselor if a death occurs as the result of COVID-19. The AFT will pay covered counseling expenses¹ for the insured and/or immediate family members. During the time in which the AFT is providing this benefit you have the opportunity to speak with one of our dedicated counselors via video, phone, or text.

Special Health Insurance Enrollment Periods Extended

The Maryland Health Connection has extended the COVID-19 Special Enrollment Period to June 15 for uninsured Marylanders who need health coverage. In this crisis it is essential that uninsured Marylanders get coverage so that they can get the care they need -- for their safety, and for all of us.

Stimulus Package effects for members

While there is great uncertainty about so much during this time, your union is committed to bring you as much information as possible so working families can make the decisions they need to survive these times. The Stimulus package is large and robust and will affect AFT-Maryland members in a number of ways.

Open Letter to Gov Hogan in Response to COVID-19

On Monday, April 6, 2020, AFT-Maryland sent this open letter to Gov. Larry Hogan regarding local and state public employees in the state of Maryland.

AFT-Maryland is a federation of public employees that represents nearly 20,000 workers across the state of Maryland. Our members work in the fields of education, public safety, healthcare and more.

Maryland Senior Call Check Program

Maryland is the first state in the country to start a free, opt-in, telephonic service to check on Maryland’s older residents, all across the state. Click here to visit the Maryland Department of Aging website for more information.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Every day a telephone call will be placed to a participant at a regularly scheduled time. These calls will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. as close as possible to the one-hour time block pre-selected by the participant. If the participant does not answer their first call, they will be tried two more times. If those calls go unanswered, additional calls will be made to notify an alternative person who is ...
