AFT-MD Petition for State Workers

AFT-Maryland is issuing a petition to be signed by state workers advocating that these workers be compensated for pay cuts and furloughs when the economy recovers.

The petition also calls for the preservation of quality services, an end to job eliminations, and the use of layoffs only as a last resort.

Governor O'Malley recently enacted a policy of furloughs for state workers and eliminated more than 200 jobs to help balance the state's budget.

The loss of these state jobs directly threatens the quality of services Maryland residents will receive from the state.

AFT-Maryland is requesting that the Governor meet with union leaders to find alternative solutions to cost cutting while saving jobs.
