The candidates for Governor and Attorney General released financial reports for the previous year, and Anthony Brown surged ahead of Doug Gansler. Brown raised $5.4 million over the past year, while Gansler raised $1.7 million. Heather Mizeur raised $1.1 million over that same period, as well. Analysts said that the numbers show that more and more donors see Brown as the clear front runner, and that Mizeur should be taken very seriously, as over 90% of her donations have come from grassroots, small time donations of under $250. Mizeur has also signed up for public financing, which means that she can solicit donations during the legislative session. Brown's running mate, Howard County executive Ken Ullman, can also receive donations during the legislative session, while Gansler and Delegate Jolene Ivey cannot as they both hold statewide office.
Republican candidates for governor are not doing nearly as well as their democratic counterparts.
In the race for Attorney General, Brian Frosh leads all his challengers by a significant margin, with $800,000 in his war chest, versus $375,000 over Jon Cardin, who is in second place right now. Aisha Braveboy has not submitted her reports yet.
