Before meeting the opportunities of 2021, it’s worthwhile to look back at AFT-Maryland’s efforts from 2020. The state federation eagerly got to work in 2020 in service of the more than 15,000 public employees across the state of Maryland. The year kicked off in January with a push to get legislators to pass the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Act. The Blueprint is the educational overhaul legislation that is commonly referred to as the Kirwan bill. AFT-Maryland and Baltimore Teachers

Paul Sarbanes is heartbreaking to all of us. He was a political titan in the state of Maryland and truly worked for all Maryland workers and families. He first came on the political scene when he drafted an article of impeachment against Richard Nixon. Since then, his tireless efforts have always prioritized Marylanders and the American people.

The quarantine has allowed us to spend more time at home with family. While that has meant shouldering a bigger load at home, it also means reconnecting with the most important people in our lives. The many donations made to food banks, shelters, and various
