AFT-MD and community partners distribute 2000+ books to kids

The Community Engagement Committee of AFT-Maryland partnered with the Baltimore Teachers Union, Maryland Communities United, and First Book to distribute over 2,000 free, age-appropriate books to students and families in Baltimore. Books were given to individual families, to teachers, to pre-Kindergarten programs, and to community groups that serve children.

Over 200 people attended the book drive held at Robert W Coleman Elementary School (#142) in Baltimore on Thursday, May 15th. AFT-Maryland and Baltimore Teachers Union President, Marietta English spoke to attendees and also invited AFT Secretary-Treasurer, Dr. Lorretta Johnson to speak. Maryland State Senator Catherine Pugh also attended.
