CUB Retiree Anniversary

The City Union of Baltimore-Retiree chapter had their Second (2nd) Anniversary luncheon on Tuesday, September 19th at the CUB office. The event was well attended and beyond simply celebrating the retiree chapter, the union had information presented by a number of speakers to ensure that members are still living engaged and enriching lives, even into retirement. Lauren Luchi who heads up AFT’s retiree division called on those in attendance to call their Senators and tell them to vote NO on the Graham-Cassidy health care bill. At one point during the luncheon, she got everyone to take out their phones and call their senators right there.

The Metro Baltimore AFL-CIO was also represented. Jay Smith who leads the community services division thanked the retiree chapter for their continued support. She also expressed just how needed their volunteer efforts are. She outlined how many AFL-CIO sisters and brothers truly rely on the food pantry and other assistance services to help make ends meet. She asked that volunteers continue to show up and donate their time, money, or goods. Baltimore Teachers Union retiree chapter president Tom Frazier was in attendance and offered the BTU’s support in the continued development of the CUB retiree chapter.

CUB president Antoinette Ryan-Johnson oversaw the event’s proceedings. She engaged with members and supporters alike and participated in the Senate calls to stop the Graham-Cassidy bill. The luncheon was emceed by AFT-Maryland organizer, Janell Edmonds.
