Among the politicians who addressed the crowd were state Sens. Kathy Klausmeier, Roger Manno, Victor Ramirez, and Rich Madaleno who is running for the Democratic nomination to be Governor. State Sen. Joanne Benson received huge applause when she told the audience to “stop sending people down here that aren’t working in the best interest of working people.”
A number of members from the House of Delegates addressed the group also. IBEW member Del. Cory McCray thanked the crowd for sending him to Annapolis to work on their behalf. Former CWA member Del. Jimmy Tarlau emphatically banged the podium driving home his point about labor. Former City Union of Baltimore president and current delegate Cheryl Glenn led the crowd in a rendition of the labor song, Solidarity Forever. Delegates Mosby, Morales, and Lewis also addressed the gathering, each proclaiming how unions had made a difference in their lives before they came to Annapolis. City Union of Baltimore President Antoinette Ryan-Johnson was the final speaker of the night, and she brought the house down with messages of solidarity and political awareness.
