The AFT-Maryland prepared a questionnaire for candidates running for office in Baltimore City as a means to familiarize the candidates with issues that our members care about most. It also allows us the chance to see where the candidates stand on these issues.

Whether at the bargaining table or the ballot box, the American Federation of Teachers provides a vehicle for working people and our communities to build collective power and accomplish what cannot be achieved alone. The more involved our members are, the stronger our collective voice is and the more effective our political role becomes.

With the 2020 presidential election underway, our members’ voices need to be heard. That is why the AFT executive council approved a presidential endorsement process that aspires to include the greatest level of participation of AFT members ever. Together, we can ensure that our collective voice shapes the debate and that we elect a candidate who shares our values and vision for our country.

• The AFT-Maryland, and each of its affiliated locals, are dues-paying members of the AFL-CIO. Fifty-five labor unions nationwide, including AFT, AFSCME, UAW, the Electrical Workers Union, the Firefighters Union, and scores of others, form the AFL-CIO, representing 12.5 million working people nationwide. The AFT-Maryland participates in and follows the AFL-CIO endorsement process.
