AFL-CIO Leadership Conference 2020

Members from many of the locals of AFT-Maryland were in Atlantic City, New Jersey for the 2020 Metropolitan Baltimore AFL-CIO 29th Annual Leadership Conference. The conference featured a number of important breakout sessions that members and leaders alike learned from. President Jermaine Jones addressed the body with his annual State of theUnion/Council Address. Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Gerald Jackson also delivered remarks.

The sessions included a Common Sense Economic session that explored the way daily economic challenges affect the lives of union members. There were also sessions that explored estate management, workers’ compensation, social media, and termination trends. These were engaging seminars that captivated the audience and held useful information for workers, particularly the public sector employees that make up our state federation.

City Union of Baltimore President Antoinette Ryan-Johnson was awarded the Phillip H. Van Gelder Award for Community Services. This award recognizes outstanding labor leadership and community service which President Ryan-Johnson has demonstrated throughout her time as a leader of CUB. The award was presented by Tommy McLaughlin of the Metro Baltimore AFL-CIO, and Windy Deese of the United Way of Central Maryland.
