This year, for the first time, and after an introduction by a Baltimore Teachers Union delegate, the AFT recognized PSRP Week. In the past, PSRPs have been given just a day for recognition. The Baltimore Teachers Union provided small tokens of appreciation and hosted a joyful night of recreation for PSRPs.
The recognition comes after AFT-Maryland, in conjunction with labor partners AFSCME, MSEA, and SEIU lobbied for and won bonuses for all Maryland education support personnel, under which BTU PSRPs fall. The bonuses will be distributed in October of 2022 and July of 2023. AFT-Maryland Legislative and Policy Director Denise Riley praised PSRPs for testifying on the bill to help ensure its passage.
