AFT-Maryland Lobby Night 2019

Members from across the state federation met in Annapolis to lobby for a range of issues important to Maryland public employees. Delegates and state Senators heard from members about everything from due process rights for Maryland School for the Deaf employees, to education funding, to property tax cuts for low wage Baltimore city employees, among other issues the federation will press during the current legislative session.

Elected officials and their staff in Annapolis were excited to see the sea of AFT-Maryland blue that took over the House and Senate buildings. Longtime officeholders were familiar with AFT-Maryland’s priorities and echoed their continued support for the state federation and the issues we are pursuing this session. Newer members learned about the state federation and the wide range of interest and public sector workers we represent.

The largest act of solidarity was seeing members from municipal unions lobby for state workers as well as watching teachers and educators lobby for better staffing ratios in state run health centers. The state federation represents a wide range of public employees who serve as education professionals, health care professionals, as well as state and municipal civil servants.
