Marietta English (President, AFT-Maryland and Baltimore Teachers Union) spoke before the Education Sub-Committee of the Baltimore Delegation Saturday, November 15, 2014. She addressed topics such as a hybrid school board (elected & appointed), funding for Baltimore City schools, and the proliferation of Community Schools across the city.
During the public hearing Baltimore City Schools CEO Gregory Thornton also addressed the delegation. He spoke on the funding earmarked for school construction as well as addressing his vision for the future of public schools in the city.
Community members were on hand and allowed to air their grievances to the elected officials. City residents shared their feelings on issues raEdunging from funding for city schools, increased accountability for student achievement, and hybrid school boards.
