Thank the Union!
Maryland state workers are reminded that the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, November 21, is a day off thanks to the terms of the contracts negotiated by unions. State worker-members of Unit G (represented by the Maryland Professional Employees Council, MPEC) and Unit E (represented by AFT Healthcare-Maryland) will receive the day off as a result of those unions’ successful efforts to secure compensation for the furlough state workers were required to take last year. As a result of the unions’ actions, state workers can enjoy a five-day (counting the weekend) Thanksgiving Holiday.
