Maryland Professional Employees Council (MPEC) President Maria Mathias and AFT Healthcare-Maryland President Debra Perry want to remind their union members that they will receive a pay increase this month.
As a result of negotiations between those two unions and the state of Maryland, employees in Bargaining Units G and E who have received a performance rating of “satisfactory” or better will receive a merit step increase in the paycheck they will receive during the first week of April, 2014. This increase is in addition to the 3 percent Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase that the unions negotiated and that Bargaining Units G and E employees received on January 1, 2014. The unions also negotiated the continuation of step increases on the normal, annual dates. Those increases will occur on or around July 1, 2014, or January 1, 2015, depending on the employee’s original service entry date.
The two unions also have announced that they will conduct meetings in each of their respective union worksites to discuss the state’s recent reductions in contributions to the state employee pension fund and strategies for precluding the state legislature from taking such actions in the future. Times and dates for the upcoming meetings will be announced and posted at the worksites.
