Members Gather in Annapolis for Lobby Night

AFT Maryland members came together in Annapolis for our annual Lobby Night, where they met with legislators to advocate for our priorities and push for protections for workers across the state. From K-12 educators to higher education faculty, state employees to healthcare workers, we made it clear that Maryland's workers deserve respect, fair pay, and a real voice in decisions that affect our lives.

AFT Maryland coordinated the annual event, provided transportation to Annapolis, and made an appointment schedule for the evening. Members either took the bus, or met their union colleagues in Annapolis, and received information packets on the bills and issues of most interest to our members this session. AFT Maryland Legislative & Policy Director, Denise Riley, and Political Coordinator, Todd Reynolds were available to help answer questions, and AFT Maryland staff helped to navigate member groups to various appointments with delegates and senators throughout the evening.

The legislators had the opportunity to hear first-hand stories from AFT Maryland members about their work in public service, and how different pieces of legislation affect their lives.

If you'd like to get more involved in the AFT Maryland Legislative or Political committees, contact Political Coordinator Todd Reynolds at treynolds@aftmd.org, or 443-320-4719.
