As you may know, Maryland’s legislative session is now underway, and we have been on the frontlines in Annapolis advocating for high-quality public education, improving healthcare and public services, and shaping and advocating for policy that benefits Maryland state workers, students, and communities.
A top priority this year is the Higher Education Collective Bargaining bill, which would expand collective bargaining to four-year higher education colleges and universities in Maryland. In 2021, we were able to successfully expand collective bargaining rights for Community Colleges, and this year we are spearheading the campaign to ensure all higher education workers have collective bargaining.
Unfortunately, we are also seeing attacks on funding for public education in the state’s recently announced budget, and it is critical that we remind legislators that now is certainly not the time to be cutting funding that will negatively impact students and educators.
Will you stand with us to safeguard these rights and fulfill our promises to build a stronger future for our children and communities?
Make your voice heard.
Here are just a few actions you can take right now:
- Sign on to the Higher Ed Bargaining letter urging legislators to pass this bill
- Sign on to the Don’t Make Cuts letter telling legislators to fully fund the education budget
- Call your state legislators.
- Sign up to join AFT Maryland Members at our next lobby night on March 11.
Every call and signature can make a real difference and bring us closer to the future we envision for our communities.
Thank you for your support.
