AFT-Maryland kicked off our first two nights of members-only gubernatorial candidate meet-and-greet events last week. AFT-Maryland members who work in the field of public education had a chance to hear from a few of the candidates who are running to be the next governor of Maryland. Candidates discussed a range of public education policy issues including how to fund the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future legislation, a.k.a. Kirwan, as well as their opinion on elected school boards, charter schools, and mandatory testing.
Candidates heard directly from members, both in pre-submitted questions as well as members asking questions of the candidates during the virtual forum. These events, which are a members-only benefit, have been divided into meet-and-greets that focus on education professionals or public employees. More will be coming in January 2022.
