Governor Moore Honors Public Service Union Members at Labor Day Event

Maryland Governor Wes Moore held a Labor Day event honoring union members who work in public service jobs, and several AFT Maryland members were proudly included in the program.

Honorees from AFT Maryland affiliates included:

  • Lisa Oelfke, AFT Healthcare-Maryland, Local 5197, who works for the Maryland Department of Health
  • Sherry Anderson, Maryland Classified Employees Council, Local 1935, who works for the Department of Juvenile Services
  • Nettie Harris, City Union of Baltimore, Local 800, a 911 Specialist in Baltimore City
  • Mya Collins, Maryland Professional Employees Council, Local 6197, a parole hearing officer for the State of Maryland
  • Sia Kyriakakos, Baltimore Teachers Union, Local 340, a teacher at Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School
  • Perline Young, Maryland Professional Employees Council, Local 6197, a personal property assessor with the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation since 1989

AFT Maryland President Kenya Campbell and City Union of Baltimore President Antoinette Ryan-Johnson also attended the ceremony.

These members represent the dedication of the public servants who keep Maryland running, from health care and juvenile services to emergency response, education, and public safety.
