Dear members,

The wintertime and holiday season are a time for us to slow down, be close with our family and friends, and take a moment to reflect on the year that has passed.

As 2025 comes to a close and the holiday season continues, we are celebrating the amazing accomplishments of this year, honoring the hard work of all our members, and remembering those we have lost.

In a year filled with uncertainty and chaos, our AFT Maryland family has never stopped standing up, fighting, growing, and supporting one another.

We have seen major victories across the state – from securing first-ever contracts for faculty at four community colleges to our fellows and resident doctors at the University of Maryland Medical Center winning a first-ever, historic union contract.

Our union was on the frontlines this year fighting to protect the students, patients, and communities that we serve against attacks from the federal government. And our AFT Maryland members have shown up every single day for those who rely on us and the vital services we provide.

We are excited for all of the possibilities ahead, as we look to 2026, and the momentum we have built for the fights in front of us. Everything that we have been able to accomplish is thanks to our members, and we are ready to continue fighting alongside you in the new year.

As labor activists, we know there will always be a next fight, a next moment demanding our attention and tenacity. So to prepare for the year to come, it is crucial that we all take time over the coming days to press pause, rest, and restore.

Let’s let these final days of 2025 be a moment to find peace and joy. And for whatever holiday you may be celebrating this winter season, may it be a time to be with the ones you love, a chance to honor the year behind us, and an opportunity to recharge.

Wishing you a Happy Holidays and a joyous new year!
