The AFT Maryland union family is deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved friend, colleague, and fellow union member, Carolyn Caulk-Smith. She passed away on September 9, 2026, at the age of 82, transitioning from labor to reward.
Carolyn's commitment to the labor movement did not end with her career. In retirement, she served as an officer of the Baltimore Teachers Union Retiree Chapter and on the executive board of AFT Maryland. She was an active volunteer who could always be counted on to lend a hand, and her steady presence strengthened every group she joined.
A homegoing celebration was held on September 25 at the Vaughn Greene Chapel in Randallstown, where her family received friends before services. She was laid to rest at King Memorial Park on Dogwood Road.
Carolyn touched many lives, and she will be remembered fondly for the moments shared and the memories created. Family, friends, and colleagues extend their love and support during this time. Though her presence will be missed, her influence will endure in all who knew her and carry forward her character and spirit.
Friends are invited to visit Carolyn's tribute wall and share their memories: https://www.tributearchive.com/obituaries/49619536/carolyn-olivia-caulk-smith
