Welcome Spring, Maryland!

Spring is the season of growth, and it's worth taking a moment to see how far we've come.

It proved to be a challenging season, but our union has grown stronger. This legislative session, and always, members organized in force at hearings, at rallies, and in testimony demanding change. The results are clear to see.

We've ratified a contract for faculty at Chesapeake Community College and secured historic agreements for our City of Baltimore and Baltimore School System workers – agreements that deliver fair wages, protect working conditions, and give workers a real voice at the table.

We've amplified educators' voices across the state, telling the stories of what's at stake when faculty lack collective bargaining rights. And we've advanced collective bargaining rights for higher education faculty through the Maryland Senate, bringing us closer than ever to extending these protections to our non-tenure faculty at Maryland’s public four-year institutions – the same rights enjoyed by nearly all Maryland public employees.

Now let's carry this momentum forward. As we welcome spring and look ahead to the rest of 2026, the work continues. I hope the season's holidays, longer days, and warming weather bring you renewal. The fight continues, but these wins remind us why we keep showing up for our students, our workers, and our communities, and we at AFT Maryland will continue showing up for all of our members.

Thank you for everything you do. Your dedication powers this movement.

Happy Spring!
